Community Town Hall

September 17 Community Town Hall on the Former 3M / Project Cosmos Site
The Four Points Collective organized a public town hall bringing approximately 400 residents, SB Energy, Austin Energy, Austin Water, City staff and elected officials together to ask questions about the proposed Cosmos project at 6801 River Place Boulevard.

September 27 Letter to Governor Abbott — “Urgent Request for State Intervention — 70 MW Data Center Surrounded by Austin Neighborhoods, Schools and Protected Wildlands”

The letter asked the State to review the proposed Cosmos project because of its approximately 50 MW critical IT load, approximately 70 MW total electrical requirement, proximity to neighborhoods and schools, and location beside environmentally sensitive land.

Questions to the City of Austin

The Four Points Collective sent community questions and asked the City to explain how Project Cosmos is being classified, what land-use standards apply, how its electrical and water requirements are being evaluated, and what noise, vibration and environmental protections will be required.

Use Determination Request

A formal request has been made to the City's Development Services Department asking the City to clarify the permitted use of the Cosmos project at 6801 River Place Boulevard and the basis for its interpretation of the site's existing Planned Development Agreement. They found R&D and Data Center as an approved Uses.

The Four Points Collective has begun identifying possible community protections and benefits that could be discussed with SB Energy, including emergency evacuation access, wildfire protection, school access, traffic improvements, noise and vibration protections, water conservation, environmental monitoring, parkland and open space.
